The Ultimate 7-Day Summer Road Trip in Georgia: Mountains, Wine & the Black Sea

Some destinations are meant to be visited, but Georgia is meant to be experienced.

One day you're wandering through the charming streets of Tbilisi. The next, you're driving beneath the peaks of the Greater Caucasus. Soon you're sipping wine in Kakheti, breathing the fresh air of Borjomi's forests, and ending the journey with a sunset over the Black Sea in Batumi.

That's the beauty of traveling by car in Georgia. Every road tells a different story, and every stop becomes part of the adventure.

If you're planning to rent a car in Georgia, this seven-day itinerary is designed to help you experience the country's most iconic destinations at your own pace.

Before you hit the road, we recommend reading our guide, Driving in Georgia: 10 Things Every Tourist Should Know Before Renting a Car, where you'll find practical tips about local roads, driving conditions, and everything you need to know before your journey.

Take your time. Georgia has its own rhythm, and your road trip should too.

Day 2 – Tbilisi → Mtskheta → Gudauri → Kazbegi

Today is one of the most scenic drives in the entire country.

Just twenty minutes from Tbilisi, stop in Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital and one of its most treasured UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Continue north along the legendary Georgian Military Highway, passing the medieval Ananuri Fortress, the turquoise Zhinvali Reservoir, and the famous Gudauri Panorama before arriving in Kazbegi.

The destination is spectacular, but the drive itself is unforgettable.

If you're visiting Georgia in spring or autumn, this route is just one of many scenic drives. You can also explore our guide to the Best Places to Visit in Georgia by Car, featuring more unforgettable destinations just a few hours from Tbilisi.

Day 3 – Kazbegi → Tbilisi → Sighnaghi

Wake up surrounded by the Caucasus Mountains before making your way back toward eastern Georgia.

Your destination is Sighnaghi, the "City of Love," perched above the Alazani Valley in the heart of Kakheti.

Spend the evening exploring cobbled streets, tasting local wines, and watching the sun set over one of Georgia's most beautiful landscapes.

Day 4 – Sighnaghi → Borjomi

Today's drive brings another change of scenery.

Leave the vineyards behind and head west toward Borjomi, one of Georgia's most famous spa towns.

Walk through Borjomi Central Park, taste the natural mineral water straight from the source, and enjoy the peaceful forests that surround the valley.

It's the perfect place to slow down before continuing your journey.

Day 5 – Borjomi → Batumi

Summer in Georgia isn't complete without the Black Sea.

Today's route takes you through western Georgia before arriving in Batumi—a vibrant coastal city where modern architecture meets palm-lined boulevards and seaside sunsets.

Spend the evening walking along Batumi Boulevard, enjoying fresh seafood, and watching the city come alive after dark.

Day 6 – Discover Batumi & the Adjara Coast

Sometimes the best road trip days aren't about driving far.

Spend today exploring Batumi and the beautiful Adjara coastline.

Visit the Batumi Botanical Garden, discover the historic Gonio Fortress, relax on the beaches of Sarpi, or drive inland to the stunning Makhuntseti Waterfall and the centuries-old Mirveti Bridge.

Having your own rental car allows you to experience places that many organized tours simply don't reach.

Day 7 – Batumi → Tbilisi

Every great road trip eventually finds its way home.

The drive back to Tbilisi offers one last chance to experience Georgia's changing landscapes, from the Black Sea coastline to rolling hills and the vibrant capital.

If time allows, make a stop in Kutaisi or visit the breathtaking Martvili Canyon before completing your journey.

Seven days aren't enough to see everything Georgia has to offer.

But they're enough to understand why so many travelers promise themselves they'll come back.
